Fellowship Application

Application to the postdoctoral training program (fellowship) in medical informatics at the Laboratory of Computer Science (LCS) is online only via the Harvard Medical School Informatics Research Training Program Web Site.

Along with several other world class informatics laboratories, the MGH LCS is a member of the Harvard Informatics Research Training program and is supported by a grant from the National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health. Participants comprise a vibrant academic community of individuals with diverse backgrounds and broad-ranging interests, providing fellows with many opportunities for interaction and collaboration. The breadth and depth of our research laboratories, real-world clinical systems, research activities, formal academic programs, and experienced faculty provides an unparalleled environment to mentor and instruct trainees in all of the training domains of biomedical informatics.

The goal of the Harvard Informatics Training Program is to prepare individuals as independent researchers in the field of biomedical informatics.

Fellows develop their independence as researchers in four interrelated phases:

Fellows complete formal coursework for the MMSc in Biomedical Informatics degree, and they are mentored in their respective laboratories. In addition, they complete and defend a formal Master's thesis, and finally, in their last year, with guidance from a faculty mentor, they prepare a K-99 or similar mentored research grant application.
For United States citizens and permanent residents, fellowships provide stipend, tuition, and travel funds, and are typically for two to three year periods. Trainees are primarily associated with a particular research group, depending on interests. In addition, the program provides many opportunities for educational, research, and collegial/social interaction among the faculty, students, and fellows of the training sites through the Harvard Medical School Center for Biomedical Informatics (CBMI).

The online application form is available at: http://informaticstraining.hms.harvard.edu/forms/application-form
Applications are accepted for consideration between September and February for admission to the program the following July.

The applicant should be prepared to upload a current curriculum vitae/resumé with a personal statement/letter of interest while completing the online form.

Three letters of reference from faculty who can best characterize the applicant's capabilities and experiences are required. These letters should provide some detail on the applicant's background and experience in both computer science and medicine and his or her professional interests.

Please send three letters of reference and undergraduate and graduate transcripts directly to:
