The Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Clinical Research Program (CRP) was established in 1995 to improve the environment for clinical investigation at MGH. LCS staffs the Information Management Unit for CRP, helping to formulate strategic direction in information systems supporting clinical research. The RPDR, for example, began as a prototype supported by the CRP.

For study volunteers:

LCS designs, implements and supports public web sites that enhance recruitment into clinical studies at the institution. Examples include the clinical trials listing site CRnet (http://crnet.mgh.harvard.edu) and the Research Study Volunteer Program site (http://www.rsvpforhealth.org).

For investigators:

LCS supports the Clinical Research Handbook and Clinical Research Oncall, an intranet reference and toolkit for clinical investigators and study staff seeking resources for planning and designing studies, finding funding sources, preparing grant submissions, and managing day-to-day protocol activities. The new education site, the Hub, has been built to better support the substantial education mission of the Clinical Research Program.

For partners in clinical research:

LCS has participated in highly focused collaborations on informatics-based interventions in disease management and patient registries. There have been several phases of collaboration in diabetes management, starting with one single clinic study and continuing into the present with a Partners-wide initiative. Present areas of collaboration include HIV management and Rheumatoid Arthritis management.
